Private William Thomas Partridge

Highland Light Infantry 14th Battalion, Service no. 281938

Son of John Joseph Partridge and Hannah Burton

Died 24th November 1917, aged 30

Story

William Thomas Partridge was born on the 3rd August 1887 in Normanton.  By 1911, he had moved to No.2 Kippax Hall, and worked as an assistant grocer at the old Kippax Cooperative on the High Street where the modern Co-op stands now.  He enlisted for Army service in Kippax.

Private Partridge was killed in action on the 24th November 1917, but his body was never found, and he was officially accepted to be deceased.  William was not married, so his younger sister Doris received £7 1s 8d on the 20th September 1918 from the army following William’s death, and a further £7 10s on 24th December 1919.  He has no known grave and is remembered on the Cambrai Memorial, Louverval in France, ref. panel 10.
