Story

Thomas was baptised in Kippax on 13th February 1887, and was born on Preston Lane, Kippax.  His parents were Alfred Simpson (19th May 1864 – 4th October 1941), of Bowers Row, and Annie Firth (7th January 1866 – 21st September 1940), of Kippax.  By 1911, the family were living at Simpson Place, Station Road, and Thomas was working as a Grocer’s Assistant.  Thomas married Isabella Dickinson (13th June 1888 – 1977) in Kippax on 8th September 1913.  Thomas was 5 ft 6 inches tall when he joined the Machine Gun Corps, and had moved to 79 High Street.  Thomas was discharged from the Army after suffering an unusual injury.  He was kicked by a mule in Italy, which fractured his left tibia.  He was hospitalised for three months with this injury, and walked afterwards with a slight limp.   After the War, he resumed work as a Grocer and continued to live on the High Street.  Thomas passed away at the age of 72.
