Private Thomas Fish Firth

Royal Navy, Service no. 5222

Born: 3rd September 1891.  Died: 1973

Story

Thomas was baptised in Kippax on 18th October 1891.  He was the son of Jacob Firth (1861-1930) and Mary Caroline Fish (1869-1930).  His parents passed away within one week of each other.  The family lived on Leeds Road, and before the War, Thomas was an assistant Greengrocer.  He married Rebecca Longbottom in Kippax on 27th January 1917, and they moved to the High Street, before Thomas was mobilized in the Royal Navy on 16th July 1917.  During his active service, Thomas was wounded several times, including one injury to his left thigh.

After the War, the family moved to 55 Woodland Road, Leeds, where he was working as a Building Labourer.  In 1967, Thomas and Rebecca, then living in Barwick-in-Elmet, were featured in the local press, celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary. Thomas passed away at the age of 82.
