Corporal Stanley Jackson

Royal Air Force

Born: 14th July 1920.

Story

Stanley Jackson was the son of World War One veteran, Edgar Jackson (1895-1947) and his wife Hilda Firth (1894-1980), who married on 2nd August 1919 in Kippax.  Edgar served with the Connaught Rangers in the First World War, and was captured in Bulgaria, and held as a prisoner of war.

Before the Second World War, Stanley was living with his parents at 8 Hollis Row, Mount Pleasant, and was working as a Bookkeeper Clerk for a Leadworks Company.  During the War whilst on leave in 1943, Stanley married Norah Ward (1924-2011) in Allerton Bywater (below left).  Norah’s maternal uncle was John Crossland (1913-1997) who was also serving in the War effort.  After the War, some ex-service men formed a rugby team in Kippax, and Stanley joined them (picture below right.  Stanley is bottom row centre).  Stanley passed away in 1995. Their son Stephen still lives locally.
