Private Rowland Wright

Royal Army Medical Corps, Service no. 157.

Born: 19th July 1893.  Died: 1982.

Story

Rowland was born in Kippax, the son of Thomas Wright and Martha Jane Dunnill.  Rowland’s mother passed away in in 1913, and Rowland signed up with the Royal Army Medical Corp shortly after the outbreak of War.  He served in France from 14th April 1915, until he left the Army on 19th March 1919.  After the War, Rowland married Henrietta Plows in Kippax on 18th July 1923.  Henrietta also served at the Barnbow Munitions Factory.  They were living at 9 East View, Robinson Lane in 1939, Rowland’s occupation being General Labourer. 

Rowland became Vice President of the Kippax Branch of the Royal British Legion (story below).  Both Rowland and Henrietta passed away in 1982.
