Story

Percival’s father, Ernest Lowe, was a corporal during the First World War, and married Maud Lowe in Kippax on 19th April 1919 (pictured below), and their son Percival was born at the end of the same year:

Before the War, the family were living at 29 Coronation Avenue, and moved to 12 Coronation Avenue during the War.  In January 1940, Percival’s Squadron were equipped with Spitfire aircraft and the squadron took part in The Battle Of Britain.  Aircraftsman Lowe was killed alongside two other men, during an enemy air raid on RAF Wittering, Cambridge where he was stationed.  During the Second World War there were a total of 30 people killed and up to 70 hurt during air attacks on Cambridge.  Percival was buried in Kippax on 20th March 1941, and there was a small detachment of RAF men present at his funeral.  Percival left his father £161 4s in his will.
