


King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Born: 29th January 1898. Died: 10th July 1994.
Story
Norman was the son of George Edward and Alice Morley. He was born in Holmfirth, and baptised on 27th November 1898 in Upper Thong, and the family moved to Barnsley in 1911, and then to Castleford. He married Munitions Worker, Hilda Nerissa Wilson in Kippax on 5th May 1918, and Norman listed his occupation on his marriage certificate as a Private in the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. After the War, the couple had a son William on 14th December 1920, and another son George on 24th October 1925. Norman was a Colliery Hewer in 1939, when the family lived at 24 Park Avenue, Kippax. For many years, Norman was heavily involved with Kippax Brass Band, and is pictured below conducting the band (far left) in 1953.

Hilda passed away 31st March 1955, and Norman re-married Margaret Wright in 1958. Norman passed away at the age of 96.
