Born: 17th October 1918.
Story
Lawrence Herbert Brown was the son of Arthur Brown (1886-1958) and Edith Searson (1889-1961), who married in Newark, Nottinghamshire in 1913, and came to live at 2 Tatefield Mount, then on Butt Hill.
Lawrence was an Engineering Cost Clerk before joining the Royal Air Force. During the War, he was based in Saskatchewan, Canada, where he trained to be a pilot. Lawrence wrote a letter home to describe a visit he’d made to Banff, which had been visited by the Royal family. He also described meeting some Mounties and his experiences with the footplate of a Canadian Pacific Railway Engine. Whilst in Canada, he took the opportunity to learn how to skate and ski. Lawrence passed away in December 1981.
