This soldier is commemorated on the Kippax War Memorial, however we have been unable to find any information about him. John Prince was killed in action, and this may have been a duplicate entry.
There was John George Prince, a farmer from Allerton Bywater, who was killed in France on the 9th October 1917, aged 31. He was a Private in the York & Lancaster Regiment, 1st/4th Battalion (Hallamshire (T.F)) Battalion, Service No. 33124), but it is doubtful whether this relates to the same individual. From the order of names on the War Memorial, which appear to be listed in the order that news would have been received, it is likely that John William Prince was killed late in 1917.
