Private John Thomas Buttree

Born: 28th November 1868.  Died: 28th March 1947.

Story

John was born in Wistow, Selby, North Yorkshire, the son of John and Ellen Buttree.  He moved to Kippax to work as a coal miner, and married Rachel Freeman on 25th January 1892 in Leeds.  They went on to have 7 children.

When John returned from the War, he resumed work as a coal miner, and the family lived on Leeds Road, before moving to Moorgate, Kippax, where Rachel passed away in 1940, and John in 1947.  John left £470 1s 4d in his will to his daughter Doris Pritchard who was already a widow, since her husband James had died in 1918.  James also had a brother, Albert Pritchard, who was killed during the War, in Mesopotamia.
