Story
Private Prince was born 3rd May 1897 in Kippax to Albert Prince and Sarah Whalley. His father died in 1910, and John was supporting his mother who took work as a laundress, as 3 of his 6 siblings had died in infancy. John was working as a Banksman at the colliery. He enlisted for Army service in Castleford. John died along with several other soldiers from Kippax at the Battle of Cambrai. John’s mother was paid £8 8s by the Army on 5th June 1918, with a further £14 paid 15th November 1919.
