Story

John was the son of James Parker and Kippax mid-wife Katherine Morgan, and he was baptised in Kippax on 21st September 1892.  By 1911, he was working as a Pony Driver in the colliery, and living at home in Pease Fold.  On 7th October 1914, he married Minnie Stephenson in Kippax, whose parents William and Mary Louisa ran the White Swan.  John was noted as having enlisted early in the War, and served in the Royal Army Medical Corps.  After the War, John and Minnie had three children: John (19/01/1915 – 22/06/1931); Catherine (29/05/1921); and Dennis in 1922.  During the Second World War, John was still a coal miner, living at 2 West View, but also acted as an ARP Warden.  He passed away at the age of 87, having celebrated his Golden and Diamond Wedding anniversaries, which were covered in the local press.
