Story
News of Lance Corporal Douglass was received by official letter, sent to Mrs. Townend, that her son had died from wounds received in action. Born in Kippax, John was well known in the village. He enlisted in January 1916 and went to France in May. On 18th August 1916, he suffered shell-shock and was in hospital for ten days.
In a letter home, two days before his death, he wrote that he was “in the pink” and had been promoted to Lance Corporal.
