Prince of Wales’s Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment, 5th Reserve Battalion, Service no. 79483
Born: 2nd July 1889. Died: 29th November 1953
Story
Jacob was baptised in Kippax on 28th July 1889. He was the son of John Garlick (1857-1939) and Emily Green (1860-1904). John had originally been a miner, born in West Haddlesey, Selby, but lost his leg in an accident, and consequently became a farmer. The family lived on the High Street, and worked at Maltkin Farm (pictured below). However before the War, Jacob, like his father, was a coal miner, employed by R&W Bowers. He was 5 ft 5 inches tall, and enlisted 19th December 1915. It is not thought that he fought in active combat.

After the War, Jacob left mining and worked on his father’s Farm. In 1939, he was still there, with his brother Thomas and two sisters Emma and Eva. The farm was sold by the Bland’s Estate in 1959, and was bought by Jacob’s nephew, John William Garlick.
Jacob passed away at St. James’ Hospital, Leeds at the age of 64, and as he was unmarried, his estate went to his older brother Thomas.
