Story
Jack Collett was born in 1906, and was the son of George Collett, who was a Waiter. Jack was living at 24 Brigshaw Lane, and working as a boot repairer, when he married Nellie Hodgson in Kippax on 3rd August 1935. The couple moved to 48 West View, Robinson Lane. On 11th July 1941, it was reported that Lance Corporal Collett was one of 12 Kippax lads serving in Iceland, and many of them had previously served together in Norway. It was also reported on the 26th September 1941, that Jack had written home to his wife to let her know he had been amongst the enthusiastic crowd who had welcomed British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, to Iceland. Jack’s wife Nellie went on to live at 325 Lidgett Lane, Leeds, and passed away on 2nd August 1954 at Weetwood Garth Nursing Home, Leeds, before being buried at Kippax. She was a widower when she passed away at the age of 44, but it is not clear when Jack passed away.
