Story
These ten Ingle brothers were the sons of George Ingle (1874-1933) and Edith Firth (1880-1961, Edith is pictured below). At the outbreak of War, the majority of brothers were still living with their widowed mother at 51 New Street, Kippax.

At the outbreak of War, three brothers signed up straight away. On 18th July 1941, it was reported that George Ingle had served in Norway, Fred was serving in Iceland, and Leonard Ingle was serving in France. On 26th February 1943, it was reported that Leonard had met up with fellow villager Maurice Colley, whilst serving in the Middle East. Maurice was later killed in action on 25th March 1945. By July 1941, the remaining seven Ingle brothers had registered for service, with three brothers engaged in Civil Defence work. These were Ernest Ingle, who was working part-time in the A.F.S., Walter was with the A.R.P., and Percy was with the Home Guard. The other brothers registered for service were Arthur, Dennis, Tom and James.
The eldest, Arthur was born 11th May 1902, and married Edith Sedgwick on 24th December 1928 in Allerton Bywater, whilst he was living at 51 Hollinhurst. He passed away in 1981.
Ernest Ingle was born 18th September 1903. After the War, he continued to support his mother, living with her at 22 New Street, and passed away in 1970.
Tom Ingle was born 23rd February 1905. He married Matilda McDermott in Allerton Bywater on 4th May 1931, and passed away in 1989.
George Ingle was born 2nd March 1907. He passed away in Southend-on-Sea in 1978.
Walter Ingle was born 28th December 1908. He married Ida May Wheatley (1914-2004) in Kippax in 1936, pictured below, and lived with Ida at 23 Tatefield Place before the War. Walter passed away in 1990.

Percy Ingle was born 5th January 1911, and married Lilian Ellen Leaf (1915-2002) in Burley-in-Wharfedale during the War in 1942 (pictured below). They had a son and daughter who are now both deceased. Percy passed away in Menston in 1993.

Dennis Ingle was born 29th October 1912, and married Lilian Hutt in 1937. He worked as a carpenter on Church Lane, before moving to 15 Tatefield Place, and passed away in 1982.
Fred Ingle was a cutter for a tailor before the War, and was born 17th December 1916. He married Jessie Margaret Houston, and passed away on 29/12/1976. His wife Jessie passed away on 26/05/1971.
Leonard Ingle was born in 1918, but no further information about him has been found.
James William Ingle was born 17th December 1920, and married Lois Cowell in 1947. He lived at 52 New Street, and passed away in 1997.
