Ida Atkinson

Munitions worker at Barnbow

Born: 9th February 1895.  Died: 1977

Story

Ida was born in Astley, Swillington, the daughter of George Charles Atkinson, a Platelayer and Engine Driver from South Milford, and his wife Elizabeth Ann Norton, who was from Canada.  Ida’s father was an invalid in 1901, and passed away shortly after, leaving Ida’s mother to support the family, which she did as a glass cleaner.  Ida married in Kippax on the 25th March 1918 to Percy Robinson of Allerton Bywater, who was a Corporal in the Royal Engineers.  Ida’s marriage certificate states she was a munitions worker.  By 1939, Ida and her family were living at 5 Tatefield Place, Kippax.  She passed away in 1977.
