Private Harry Wright

Coldstream Guards, Service no. 27633

Born: 29th November 1894.  Died: 17th August 1943.

Story

Harry was baptised in Kippax on 19th December 1894, after being born on Bramley Terrace, Kippax.  His parents were Harry Wright and Catherine Street, and by 1911, the family lived at 18 West View, Robinson Lane.  Harry was working as a Pony Driver at Ledston Luck Colliery.  Harry enlisted on 8th December 1915 under the Lord Derby Scheme, and was only called up for service on 27th April 1918.  He was 5ft 9 inches tall, and whilst on leave, he married Mary Hannah Bickerdike in Kippax on 22nd July 1918, and they moved to 11 South View, Kippax.  Harry’s older sister married Leonard Wilson who won the Military Medal and Distinguished Conduct Medal.  After the War, Harry and Mary had a daughter Doris, and moved to 7 Helena Street.  Harry passed away at the age of 48.
