Story
Gordon Ratcliffe was the son of James Ratcliffe (1868-1951), who played with Kippax Old Prize Band for most of his life, and kept their Band Diary until he passed away and Mabel Wilkinson (1872-1958) who married in Kippax on 23rd April 1892. Gordon’s brother George Ratcliffe (1900-1992) fought in the First World War and was injured. Gordon married Winifred Elizabeth Stokell (1914-1993) on 6th August 1932 in her home village of Sherburn-in-Elmet. Winifred is pictured below in 1935 with her daughter Pearl and holding son Brian. Gordon was a bus conductor before the War and lived at 36 Mount Pleasant.

On 23rd February 1945, it was reported that Gordon’s service with the Royal Air Force had been recognised (below). Gordon passed away on 1st June 1976, aged 66.
