


Guardsman George William Beeston
Coldstream Guards, Foot Guards, Service no. 24740
Born: 5th January 1899. Died: 1984.
Story
The son of Edward Beeston (1870-1935) and Ada Hobson (1875-1966), George lived with his parents at 16 Bickerdike Terrace before the War. He enlisted 24th April 1918, and was 5 ft 7 inches tall. After the War, George married Edna May Bedell in 1925, and moved to Doncaster, where he passed away in 1984.



Private Lorenzo Bennett
York and Lancaster Regiment, 6th Battalion, Service no. 58534
Born: 25th January 1891. Died: 1965.
Lorenzo was the son of Herbert Bennett and Mary Edith Hunter, and was born in Kippax. Lorenzo was 5ft 5 inches tall, and worked as a mechanic. He married Edith Copley on 2nd November 1914, and enlisted for the army at South Milford on 13th December 1915. During the war the York and Lancaster Regiment raised 22 battalions, suffering over 48,000 casualties out of the 57,000 men who served.
After the War, Lorenzo lived with Edith and their daughter Marguerite on Low Street, South Milford, returning to work as a joiner and carpenter. Lorenzo moved back to Kippax High Street in the 1960s, and passed away there in 1965.
