Story
George Wilkinson was the son of Edwin Wilkinson (1870-1955) and Elizabeth Eastwood (1881-1945), who had married in Allerton Bywater on 19th September 1908. Before the War, George was a general labourer living with his parents at 10 Coronation Avenue.
It is not yet known how or where George was captured, but he was either held at Stalag XI-A, Altengrabow as prisoner 142367, with Service no. 954432; or at Stalag XI-B, Fallingbostel as prisoner 140870, with Service no. 1085068. On 25th May 1945, it was reported that George had arrived back home, along with fellow Kippax prisoners of war, Leslie Hall, Dennis Burton and Charles Eric Backhouse. Sadly, his mother had passed away on 9th May 1945, and George had arrived in Kippax the day after she had been buried.
Later the same year, George married Betty Robinson, and they went on to live at 19 Coronation Avenue. George passed away on 10th April 1972 at the age of 52.
