Story
George Frederick Morley was the son of Albert Morley (1900-1954) and Gladys Walker (1898-1976), who married in Allerton Bywater on 9th February 1918. The Morley’s lived at 13 Sandgate Terrace, whilst at no.12 lived Muriel Lowe (1921-1998) whom George married in 1944. George’s best man at his wedding was Leslie Farrar (1919-2002), who also served during World War Two, and also lived next door to George at no. 14 Sandgate Terrace.
During the War, George initially served in France, and was amongst the British Expeditionary Force evacuated from Dunkirk. George was mentioned in Despatches for an act of Bravery whilst in France. On 29th August 1941, it was reported that George had been wounded in action, and he was lying injured in a hospital in the Middle East. His parents were officially advised. Whilst serving in the Middle East, George also encountered fellow villagers, Thomas Bellwood and George Edward Scown.
After the War, George returned to Kippax, and continued to live with Muriel at 12 Sandgate Terrace. George passed away on 24th November 1999, aged 81. His wife Muriel was the youngest sister of Herbert Lowe (1897-1973) who had served in the First World War.
