Private George Dickinson

Born: 1893.  Died: 1959

Story

George was the son of Wilfred Dickinson (1870-1939) and Jessie Martha Ann Crossland (1868-1956).  He was living at Glencoe Terrace in 1911, working as a clerk.  It was reported on 31st March 1915 that George Dickinson had enlisted.  He appears to have joined the Army Pay Corps, given his experience as a Clerk.  He passed away in York, aged 66.

Born: 8th October 1892.  Died: 1956

Henry was the son of William Dickinson (1852-1916) and Mary Smart (1853-1929), and was baptised in Kippax on 21st May 1893.  The family lived at 3 Warrington Row, and Henry was 5 ft 5¾ inches tall, a pony driver at the pit, and he had scar tissue on the top of his head.  He married Florence Mary Byram (1895-1961) on 1st March 1913.  Henry joined the Royal Navy on 15th July 1915.  Towards the end of the War, he travelled on the HMS Orsova (below) which left Liverpool and arrived in New York on 10th October 1918.

Henry left the Navy on 1st November 1919.  He returned to coal mining, and was living at 19 Elm Road, Adwick-le-Street, Doncaster in 1939.  Henry passed away at the age of 63.
