Private Fred Frankland

Only son of Frank Frankland and Annie Elizabeth Goodall of Cross Hills, Kippax

Died 3rd August 1917, aged 21

Story

Private Fred Frankland married May Ada Kate Elizabeth Clayton in 1914 (pictured below), and they had one child, Lilian in 1915.  Prior to the war, Fred was a miner at Ledston Luck Colliery. 

Fred’s widow May received a letter from his Battery Officer saying that Fred was preparing tea for his comrades when a shell burst near him.  Fred had enlisted at Leeds on 14th November 1914 going to France after nine months training.  He had been wounded in the head and returned to stay England until June 1916 when he again went to the front.  His wife May remarried in Kippax in 1924 to James Jackson (pictured below):

Fred is buried at the Croisilles British Cemetery in France (I.A.31)
