Royal Field Artillery, Service no. 80772
Born: 27th December 1897. Died: 1988.
Story
Ernest’s parents were William Tiffany (24/12/1871 – 26/03/1938) who was born in Kippax, and worked as a Dairy Milk Manager, and Mary Ellen Beaumont (1873-1905). Ernest was born in Earlestown, Lancashire, and baptised there on 2nd February 1898, but the family soon moved on to Lincolnshire, where Ernest’s mother passed away at the age of 32. His father William re-married Annie Louisa Spavin (1873-1932) in 1906 in Guisborough, and the family returned to Kippax, where they were living at 3 New Street in 1911. Ernest was noted on 18th August 1915 as having enlisted in the Army, and looks to have served in the Royal Field Artillery, where he was promoted to Corporal. After the War, he returned to Lancashire where he married Ethel Miller in 1920, and by 1939, Ernest was the Head Postman, living at 12 Knowle Place, Leeds. He passed away in Leeds at the age of 90.
