Story
Ernest was the son of Robert Samuel Lawson (1880-1945) and Lottie Cheesbrough (1888-1935), and was born in Hunslet, but spent his early years in Kippax. Ernest joined the Police, and became a Constable in the Leeds City Police Force. Ernest married Ivy Browning (1913-2000) in Garforth on 19th May 1934, and then they moved to 18 Birch Crescent, Leeds, and had a daughter Jean in 1935, and a son Robert in 1938.
Ernest was a reservist at the start of the War, and moved back to Coupland Road, Garforth. He was soon called up to the Scots Guards, and was captured early in the War. Ernest was held as a Prisoner of War in Germany and Poland for 5 years, travelling nearly 1,000 miles, until he was released by US forces. He was held for a time at Stalag 20b Malbork, Poland (picture below of soldiers at the Stalag XXB Main Camp Eastern District Group, on 25 February 1945).

Ernest passed away on 28th December 2006, aged 95.
