Story
James and Edwin were brothers, and were sons of Charles Frobisher (1871-1941) and Faith Shackleton (1871-1951). James was baptised in Kippax on 31st October 1893. On 5th October 1917, James was reported to have been injured during the War, although no further details were reported. The dangers of Warfare made an impression though, as James wrote to his brother Edwin after his brother enlisted into the Machine Gun Corps in Pontefract on 30th April 1918, stating that Edwin should not have enlisted, and should have remained at home. After the War, James married Harriet James in Woodhouse on 22nd May 1920. Harriet’s brother, William James, was killed during the War. James Frobisher was living at 10 Park Avenue, Kippax, when he passed away aged 66.
Edwin was 5 ft 4¾ inches tall, and was a coal miner living at Breffits Buildings, Kippax. Edwin remained in the Reserve Battalion and did not see active service overseas, before he was discharged from the army on 10th January 1919. Edwin returned to coal mining at Ledston Luck Colliery, and married Edith Annie Johnson in Kippax on Christmas Day 1924. Edith was the daughter of Robinson Johnson, who was a Kippax Special Constable during the War. The family moved to 2 Breffits Building, next door to Edwin’s parents who lived at no.1. Edwin, Edith and their two children, Jean and Geoffrey later moved to Boston Spa, where Edwin passed away at the age of 57.
