Story
Ronald was the son of Charles Edward Thompson (1896-1976) and Nellie Lancaster (1893-1978) who married in Burmantofts on 18th May 1918. Before the War, Ronald was working as an Accounts Audit Clerk, and was living with his parents at 56 Clifton Avenue, Leeds.
He is known to have been serving in Egypt in June 1943, the evidence being a 23rd birthday telegram (Marconi Radio telegraph) and birthday card from his parents, received via Cairo, postmarked Field Post office 309 (below).

On 1st November 1946, Ronald was transferred to the Army Reserve, RASC, and after demobilisation, Ron was appointed as a clerk on 1st November 1947, to Leeds Corporation, Parks Department
Ron received a war gratuity of £55 and four shillings, calculated as 669 months at sixteen shillings per month, and post-war credits for the period 1st January 1942 to 30th June 1946, of £41 and one shilling, the total due being £96 and five shillings.
Whilst working for a private accountancy firm, he studied for, and in 1954 passed the examination for the Chartered institute of Secretaries. He returned to work for Leeds Corporation and stayed there until his retirement.
Ron married his wife, Gladys Mary Winterburn in 1955. The couple were unable to have children, although they would have loved to have had a family. Mary died in 1992.
On New Year’s Eve, 1996, Ron (pictured below in later life) married Sarah Anderson (née Hind-Woodward), ten days before he died on 10th January 1997. Ron and Sarah had known each-other for four years and were always very happy together.
