Story

Edgar was the son of William Henry Adams (1884-1952) and Mary Jackson (1888-1976).  He worked as a Butcher, and before the War, the family lived at 8 Robinswell Terrace.  His brother was Major Adams, who was well-known in Kippax.  In 1939, the Adams had Harry Eden living with them, who also served in the Army.  Edgar married Dorothy Carr in 1940, and while he served overseas, his wife lived in Garden Street, Castleford.

During the War, Edgar was captured during fighting in Italy, and held as a Prisoner of War.  On 26th November 1943, it was reported that Edgar had been transferred by the Italians over to Germany.  Edgar returned to Castleford after his release, and died at the age of 80.

The painting below is by Charles Barker, and is entitled: 1st Battalion, the Green Howards in the Italian Campaign, Winter 1943–1944.
