Private Edgar Henry Hick

Story

Edgar was the son of Colliery Blacksmith, Peter Hick (1852-1932) and Annie Smith (1856-1939).  Edgar was baptised in Kippax on 11th July 1887, after which the family moved to Normanton, where Edgar was working as a Railway Clerk in 1911.  Edgar joined the Navy on 24th April 1917, and served at HMS Daedalus, which was a naval air station, also known as RNAS Lee-on-Solent.  The base was opened in 1917 and transferred to the RAF in 1918. After the War, he married Dewla Darnton in 1928.  He passed away aged 60, whilst living at The Oaks, 57 Church Lane, Crossgates.
