Prince of Wales’ Own (West Yorkshire) Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Service no. 24702
Story
Alongside his brother Fred Barton, Eddie signed up to serve in the First World War on 29th November 1915 at Carlton Barracks (pictured below), when he was living in Leeds as a Grocer’s Assistant. He was the son of Eber Barton (1868-1954) and Eliza Agnes Plows (1870-1938), and was 23 years and one month old, 5ft 4 inches tall, when he joined the West Yorkshire Regiment.

Whilst his brother Fred was killed during the War, Eddie was discharged as injured on the 19th September 1918. By this point, he had moved to 65 Tyne Street, North Shields, after marrying Elsie Addison in Leeds on 20th June 1917, and he suffered from arthritis in his left shoulder. Eddie passed away in 1943 in Manchester.
