Story
Douglas was the son of David Forrest and Martha Rose Ann Wright. His father died when he was an infant, and his mother, who was born in Kippax on 17th October 1902, worked as a shopkeeper at 24 High Street, before later moving to Station Road.
Douglas served in the Lancashire Fusiliers, 1st Battalion (pictured below during the War), which in 1939 was based in British India. During the Burma Campaign, the 1st Battalion fought with various units until 1943 when it became a Chindits formation with the 77th Indian Infantry Brigade. Douglas was killed in action in Burma.

Douglas worked as a Sunday School Teacher, and a memorial service was held at the Church led by Rev Charles O. Ellison, which was attended by his fellow Sunday school teachers. Douglas is listed on the Rangoon Memorial, Yangon, Face 9.
After losing her only child, Douglas’s mother, who used Rose as her first name, continued to live at 97 Station Road. She passed away on 4th March 1978.
