Story
Before the war, Private Beever worked at New Silkstone and Haigh Moor Collieries, Allerton Bywater as a collier. His older brothers Francis and Norman also enlisted. Dennis and Francis actually enlisted together for the Royal Army Medical Corp in Lichfield, Staffordshire. Dennis was first in line (service no. 29423), and Francis followed (29424).
Dennis had served for nearly three years before his death in action. He married in Kippax on 10th June 1905, and his widow Edith received 3 payments from the army following her husband’s death (£5 17s 11d, £1 18s 3d and £12 10s). She remarried in 1919, moved to Castleford and passed away in 1967 aged 83. Dennis is buried in La Plus Douve Farm Cemetery, Comines-Warneton Haunaut, Belgium, and has had relatives who have visited his grave recently.
