Private Charles Morley

Story

Charles was born in Alfreton, Derbyshire, the son of Adam Morley.  On 22nd April 1889 in Allerton Bywater, Charles married Sarah Lloyd, the older sister of William Lloyd who was killed during the War.  It was reported on 16th April 1915, that Charles, who was 49 years-old, had registered for Home Service, but was ready for call up if necessary.  Charles was called up to the Royal Engineers, and landed in France on 29th August 1915.  Charles was discharged from the Royal Engineers on 31st March 1916 with defective teeth.  He returned to Kippax, working as a miner living at 7 Warrington Row.  By 1939, he was an Assurance Agent, living at 2 Ashfield Terrace, Garforth.  He was buried in Kippax on 8th September 1950, aged 84.
