Private Bertie Cripwell

Seaforth Highlanders, Service no. 4686

Born: 1889.  Died: 1946.

Story

Bertie was the son of John Cripwell (1851-1940) and Matilda Clayton (1853-1932), and was christened in Kippax on 16th January 1889.  His sister Minnie Cripwell (later Garton) also worked at the Barnbow Munitions Factory.  The family lived at the Intake, Kippax in 1911, and Bertie was a shop assistant.  He initially enlisted with the Seaforth Highlanders, before joining The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) under Service no. 203296

After the War, Bertie married Gladys Wood in Normanton on 17th June 1920, and they stayed in Normanton, living at 21 Lower Station Road.  Bertie passed away aged 57.
