Story
Arthur was the son of John Sharp (1863-1940) and Sophia Hartley (1866-1933), pictured below, and Arthur was a coal miner before the war.

Arthur enlisted 11th August 1914, and was 5 ft 6 inches tall, living at 6 Hollis Buildings, Mount Pleasant. Arthur served in the Mediterranean, Egypt, France and Dardanelles. On 29th September 1916 he was hit by a bullet through the left side of his chest (reported below on 3rd November 1916).

Arthur was completely paralysed at the time, and was discharged from the army on 14th December 1916 as being unfit to serve. After the War, he recovered sufficiently to be able to walk with a cane (below). In 1939, he was living at 35 Benson Street, Leeds, but had no listed employment. He passed away in Leeds in 1972 at the age of 80.
