Story
Arthur was born in Bridlington, son of Edward and Ann Harrison but he was boarding in Kippax in 1911, as he was an assistant Schoolmaster at Kippax Elementary School.
Arthur was living at 43 Whitehall Road, Handsworth, Birmingham when he enlisted on 3rd December 1915. He was 5 ft 9½ inches tall, and trained in England between 23rd March 1916 and 5th September 1916. He passed his Physical and Bayonet training in Portsmouth on 29th June 1916, but was reprimanded on 29th August 1916 for a deficiency of kit.
George fought in Mesopotamia from 6th September 1916, and was part of the attempt to relieve Kut. He was reported wounded in the field on 4th October 1916 and again in January 1917 when he was shot in the leg during a bayonet charge. He was treated at Victoria Hospital, Bombay, India for his injuries, then fought in India from 3rd February 1917, where he was promoted to corporal. After the War, Arthur lived at 14 Malvern Road, Adcocks Green, Birmingham. He died on 27th August 1921 in the sea off the Bridlington coast. He had left his clothes on the beach, and his body was found a fortnight later (story below). He left £41 in his will to his father, a retired stationmaster. Arthur was unmarried.
