Royal Airforce, 148 Squadron, Service no. 701519
Born: 1918. Killed in action: 6th June 1941, aged 22
Story
Arnold’s parents were George Whitworth (1886-1966) and Annie Eliza Saddington (1890-1973) who were living on Church Lane, Swillington. A wireless operator, Arnold had been an electrician with T & R. R. Bowers Ltd. On the 11th October 1940, it was reported that he had been promoted to Sergeant, after being with the R.A.F. for a short time, and that his friends wished him every success in the R.A.F. Arnold married Evelyn Moore at the end of 1940 (the picture below is from their wedding), so he had only been married for less than six months, when he was killed at El Alamein, Matruh, Egypt. He is listed at the Alamein Memorial. Column 244. His widow re-married John H.G. Bond in 1947, and passed away in 1966.
