Story
The son of Arthur Atack and Georgina England, Allan enlisted 1st May 1915, and served at the Naval Base, HMS Victory I. He was 5 ft 6 tall, with a scar on the left side of his forehead. He continued to serve with the Navy after the War, and only returned to civilian life on 9th June 1921, two months after his mother had passed away.
Allan married Mabel Amelia Wilson on 21st January 1922 in Kippax. Mabel was the sister of Hilda Nerissa Wilson, who worked at Barnbow Munitions Factory. Allan’s father passed away in 1925, and in 1939, Allan and Mabel were living at 3 School Lane, Kippax (pictured below). School Lane was later renamed Westfield Lane. In later life, Allan was a coal miner, and Mabel served as a voluntary canteen worker during the Second World War. Allan passed away in 1971, aged 77.
