Story
Alfred was the son of William Martin and Hannah Bird. He lived on Robinson Lane, then moved to 6 East View. Before the War, Alfred was a tobacconist, then a colliery stoker. He was 5 ft 6½ inches tall, and enlisted on 3rd September 1916. He served in Mesopotamia for two and a half years. His brother George Arthur Martin also enlisted.
Alfred married Harriet Stringer in 1925, and took up the family profession as a shoe and boot repairer, living at Tall Bar Cottage, Tadcaster. He passed away in 1949.
