Gunner Albert Windle

Royal Field Artillery, Service no. 73241

Born: 11th November 1887.  Died: October 1944.

Story

Albert was born in Wombwell, and married Mary Ann Davison there in 1907.  On 12th May 1908, they had a son Harry, and then moved to Well Lane Kippax (pictured below), where they had a daughter, Mary Ann in 1910, and a second son Charles on 31st May 1915.  Albert was a coal miner, and enlisted early in the War, and served in France from 22nd July 1915.

After the War, Albert returned to coal mining, and the family moved to 21 Cliff Crescent.  Albert passed away at the age of 57, and was buried in Kippax on 7th October 1944.  His son, Harry, married Annie Chew in 1951 (pictured below):
